BURLINGTON, Vt. – Sen. Bernie Sanders on Thursday will host a livestream on the devastating effect of the coronavirus pandemic on Americans in our prison system. The era of mass incarceration created a perfect storm inside the nation's jails, prisons and detention facilities, and now more than 14,000 prisoners and nearly 4,000 prison staff members have tested positive for Covid-19, according to counts gathered by The Marshall Project. Sanders will be joined by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, The Covid Prison Project’s Lauren Brinkley-Rubinstein, Ph. D., attorney and South Carolina State Rep. Justin Bamberg, Vice President of the Legal Action Center Tracie Gardner and activist Shaun King.
